Term Learning Focus
At Selwyn Ridge Primary we take every opportunity to help our students to be confident, connected, actively involved life long learners. We encourage our learners to develop their interests, express their talents and pursue their passions far beyond the classroom. We take an holistic approach to learning and offer an extensive range of intra-curricula activities in the arts, sport, technology and media and cultural fields.
All of the arts are infused strongly strongly through classroom programmes and we have a specialist music teacher who facilitates choirs, bands and a range of other performance opportunities for our learners. We are also fortunate enough to have a specialist sports co-ordinator who organises a huge variety of sporting opportunities for our learners.
Term 2 Learning Focus - 'What's The Story?'
Our Term2 learning focus for 2012 is based around standing up for what we believe in, Korero O Nehera - stories of old, and creatively sharing the stories we all have.
Learning will be presented in a meaningful and authentic way, taking into consideration interestes and experiences of our learners. 'Whats the Story?' will be integrated through a variety of curriculum learning areas, with a focus on The Arts and English curriculum areas. Research suggests that if learners construct networks of connected knowledge around powerful ideas, they learn with understanding and retain that learning in forms that they can access and apply more easily (Brophy, 2011).
