Future ferns is Netball Zealand’s official Junior Netball Programme for Year 1 - 6 children. This programme has been developed for players at the right level for each players stage. The emphasis is on fun activities in which small sided games are the preferred training method and are proven to be the most appropriate way to enhance skill and tactical development.


All teams will need coaches and a manager. Umpires for the years 5/6 teams will provided from the association, the payment has been included in the sports fee. Please note the adjustment to fees is due the a fee structure change from the association. Year 1 - 4 teams do not require an umpire but the coach or manager will need to be on the court to support and guide the team throughout the the game.


NO jewellery is to be worn. Players are also required to wear their hair tied back and have short finger nails. All players will be permitted to wear black thermal tops under their uniform. No leggings/tights or track pants are to be worn during play.

 

Playing times on Saturday are only an indication and will depend on the number of team registrations and our ability to fit all teams on 19 courts in one-time slot.

Mother Earth futureFERNS (Year 1-2)

  • Fee: $55 per player
  • Starts: Saturday, 22 May - 10 weeks
  • Time: 10:00am – 11:00am
  • Where: Tauranga Netball Centre, Blake Park, Mt Maunganui
  • Uniform: School PE shirt or school uniform, suitable sports shorts and appropriate sports shoes

A team coach/manager is needed. This introduces netball to children with the aim to develop fundamental movement and ball skills. The game that follows the skills session is played on a third of a full-size court, teams of 4v4 with up to 6 players in a team with the emphasis ion equal participation.

Mother Earth futureFERNS (Year 3-4)

  • Fee: $60 per player
  • Starts: Saturday, 22 May - 10 weeks
  • Time: 11:30am – 12.30pm
  • Where: Tauranga Netball Centre, Blake Park, Mt Maunganui
  • Uniform: A netball uniform and a sports jacket will be provided, appropriate footwear must be worn, no jewellery and short nails

A team coach/manager is needed. The focus for this age group is learning basic skills in modified games of 5-a-side, using two thirds of a netball court. Games are 5v5 with up to 7 players in a team - rotating positions ensuring everyone get an equal chance to develop their skills.

  • Time: 12:30pm – 1.30pm
  • Where: Tauranga Netball Centre, Blake Park, Mt Maunganui
  • Uniform: A netball uniform and a sports jacket will be provided, appropriate footwear must be worn, no jewellery and short nails

A team coach/manager is needed - an umpire will be provided from the association. A grading game will be played on the Saturday, 15 May for year 6 teams only. Game duration is 40 minutes - 4 x 10 minute quarters - Games are 6v6 with up to 8 players in a team.

  • Starts: Saturday, 15 May (grading game for year 6 teams only) | Saturday 22 May competition starts - 12 weeks
  • Time: 12:30pm – 1.30pm
  • Where: Tauranga Netball Centre, Blake Park, Mt Maunganui
  • Uniform: A netball uniform and a sports jacket will be provided, appropriate footwear must be worn, no jewellery and short nails
